Don't take this wrong, overall I enjoyed it. But I can't belly-laugh at stuff like this. Not because I don't appreciate Jon Stewart, he comes out with some good stuff. But what he is illustrating, all too well, is how easily bought and distracted We The People can be. And that aint no joke.

What we desperately need, in this situation, is some biting - genuinely wounding - satire. Satire that makes it difficult for the dictatorship to continue and all we're getting is fairly harmless ridicule of the coronation process.

Frankly I have severe difficulty in believing this story. But, if it was true, I'd argue that any voter dumb enough to fall for something like that really doesn't deserve even the pitiful right to take their meaningless part in the selection of their next dictator...

I want it on the record that as late as 1 November 2007, the Washington Post doesn't even consider it worth mentioning what level of approval Ron Paul is getting. (See Table 7) I'll be explaining the importance of this later...
